Transitioning from academia to data science may initially appear daunting, yet it’s a path that resonates with many academics. You’re not alone in this journey! Surprisingly, a significant portion of data scientists hold doctoral degrees, with 21.7% reported to have completed a PhD according to data from the “365 Data Science” portal. In my own experience, I’ve observed that a majority of the data scientists I’ve worked with completed doctoral qualifications. However, despite these encouraging statistics, navigating the shift from academia to industry can still feel intimidating. Employers are often worried that the lack of industry experience can make it hard for you to adapt to a new role within their company.
